Why should I take collagen?
One of the major building blocks of the human body, collagen is pretty much the Swiss army knife of proteins. As we age our natural collagen production begins to slow down which can result in sagging skin, the appearance of fine lines and thinning hair - no thanks! Fortunately, there is strong evidence that shows collagen supplements can stimulate the body into producing collagen on its own. Enter SHIFT, your daily source of collagen power. So, you can get your SHIFT together.

What’s SHIFT and how does it work?
It’s a high dose of all-natural hydrolysed Peptan® marine collagen (plus Vitamins A, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B12, C, D, Selenium and Ashwagandha) that you drink to support your skin, hair, muscles, joints, heart health + more. So you can look and feel your best.

How is Peptan® collagen different from other collagen brands?
Peptan® (the collagen brand used in SHIFT) is strongly backed by scientific evidence. They have published results of peer-reviewed clinical studies demonstrating the benefits of Peptan® collagen peptides for skin, hair, joints, bones and muscle recovery.

What is collagen?
Good question. Collagen is kind of a big deal. It’s the most abundant structural protein in our bodies and makes up 70% of our dry-mass skin content. It's found in all our connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, skin, hair, and bones giving them strength, structure, and elasticity. As we get older, our bodies become less efficient at naturally producing collagen which is why so many people supplement their diet with it. Want to know more? Click here.

What is hydrolysed collagen?
Using a process called hydrolysation, the collagen is broken down into smaller pieces known as “peptides” which makes it more bioavailable – i.e. easier to absorb. This is why collagen peptides are also known as hydrolysed collagen.Research shows that due to its very low molecular weight, hydrolysed collagen is absorbed at a higher level into our bloodstreams and pumped round our bodies more easily than other forms of collagen.

What is marine collagen?
Unsurprisingly, marine collagen is derived from fish, so best steer clear if you have an allergy to fish. When the flesh of a fish is removed to be used as food, everything that is left is cleaned, and collagen is extracted via the process of hydrolysation. Marine collagen is a form of type 1 collagen - the highest, most bioavailable source of collagen. Type I collagen accounts for 90% of the total collagen in the human body and is found in tendons, ligaments, skin, bones, teeth, hair, and nails.

Can I take marine collagen if I’m allergic to fish?
Marine collagen is sourced from the skin of freshwater fish, so it’s not recommended for those with allergies to fish - sorry about that.

Is marine collagen sustainable?
Yes. Our marine collagen peptides are FOS certified and made from the skins and scales of fish that would otherwise be discarded in the fillet process. Furthermore, our collagen is not irradiated and complies with EU food regulations and marine collagen is more sustainably produced and has less impact on the environment than for example bovine collagen which is sourced from animals (cows & pigs).

Is marine collagen better than bovine collagen?
Studies have found marine collagen tends to be absorbed 1.5 times better than bovine collagen due to its low molecular weight.Studies also show hydrolysed collagen can boost circulating levels of important amino acids. Moreover, the structure and bioavailability of collagen peptides from marine fish are quite similar to those of humans. And, because Marine Collagen is sourced from fish, there is a lower risk of transmissible diseases and viruses such as “Mad Cow Disease” and Foot-and-Mouth Disease.

What are the benefits of taking collagen supplements?
They’re numerous. For example, clinical research shows that supplementing our diet with collagen can help:
- improve skin elasticity & hydration
- boost muscle mass & strength
- provide relief from joint pain
- prevent bone loss
- promote heart health
- increase hair and nail strength
- support gut health

How long does it take to see results?
Our subscribers have seen brilliant results in as little as 2 weeks. But every body is different, so if it’s taking a little longer - stick with it, it’s 100% worth it.Clinical studies show that Himmense SHIFT's key ingredient - Type 1 hydrolysed marine collagen peptides, can have a beneficial effect on the appearance of skin, boost muscle mass and reduce joint pain when taken daily for 12 weeks. This aligns with what our subscribers tell us too.

Is collagen good for males?
Yes, clinical research has found associations between collagen supplementation and favourable results for both men and women in terms of muscle mass, skin health, joints and heart health. Our subscribers have reported better overall physical and mental health as well as improvements in skin, joints, muscles, recovery and more.

What does collagen do to your skin and face?
According to a comprehensive systematic review of 19 controlled clinical trials involving 1,125 participants aged 20-70 years, published in the International Journal of Dermatology, hydrolyzed collagen supplementation shows consistently favourable results in terms of skin hydration, elasticity and wrinkles. The researchers concluded that hydrolysed collagen supplementation for 90 days is effective in reducing skin aging, as it reduces wrinkles and improves skin elasticity and hydration. Furthermore, clinical studies have found that a daily intake of Peptan® (the collagen brand used in SHIFT), reduces wrinkle visibility and increases skin hydration, firmness and elasticity.

Does collagen help muscles?
Collagen is a high source of protein. Protein contributes to the maintenance and growth of muscle mass. So it comes as no surprise that clinical studies have found associations between collagen supplementation and favourable results in terms of muscle strength, mass, and power. For example: A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study involving 53 men found that hydrolysed collagen supplementation in combination with resistance training significantly improved body composition by increasing fat-free mass, muscle strength and loss in fat mass, versus resistance training alone.

Does collagen help joints?
Clinical trials have shown supplementation with collagen helps reduce joint pain. For example: A meta-analysis of 5 randomized placebo-controlled trials involving more than 500 people with osteoarthritis found that taking collagen supplements daily for an average of 24 weeks led to significant improvements in joint stiffness and joint pain.

Is collagen good for hair?
When it comes to our hair, the specific protein responsible for maintaining its structure and quality is keratin. And like collagen, our bodies make less keratin as we get older and our hair often becomes thinner, weaker and sometimes more coarse. Collagen contains amino acids in a very easy to absorb form and some of these amino acids are vital for the production of keratin. Furthermore, a 2024 study found that Peptan® (the collagen brand used in SHIFT) may prevent (age-induced) hair loss.

At what age shall I start taking collagen?
We begin to lose about 1% of our collagen per year in our mid-20s. As we age, the body’s natural collagen production begins to slow down and the signs of ageing—like joint pain, weaker cartilage, thinning hair and sagging skin—become more apparent. By the time we get to 40, we will have lost around a third of our natural collagen. Excess sun exposure, smoking and poor diet can also inhibit collagen production. Fortunately, there is strong evidence that shows collagen supplements can stimulate the body into producing collagen on its own. So, given the saying "prevention is better than cure", experts recommend people start taking collagen supplements daily from their mid 20’s or early 30s to reap the maximum benefits. But it's never too late to start.

Why should I take SURGE?
Water is critical for your health…but it’s only one part of the hydration equation. Enter SURGE. A sugar-free drink mix with all 6 essential electrolytes, plus vitamins C, B6, B12 and creatine, so you can fuel your body with a more complete, low-calorie formula that hydrates more effectively than water alone. SURGE can be taken daily, or as needed, to help:
- Maintain daily hydration
- Enhance physical performance
- Improve endurance
- Accelerate recovery
- Provide natural energy

What are electrolytes?
Electrolytes are minerals, such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, and phosphate, that are vital for performing important functions in your body. When dissolved in water, these minerals produce an electrical charge, hence the term “electrolytes”. They play a crucial role in supporting muscle function, transmitting nerve signals, balancing pH levels, and regulating chemical reactions, especially when it comes to hydration and maintaining the balance of fluids inside and outside of cells.

What are the essential electrolytes?
There are 6 essential electrolytes the body needs: sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, calcium and phosphate. And SURGE contains all 6. Electrolytes like bicarbonate are naturally produced in your body, so you don’t need to worry about including them in your diet.

Why are electrolytes important?
Electrolytes are essential minerals that play a role in just about every vital organ, from your heart to your lungs to your brain. They are necessary for:
- Fluid Balance: They help maintain the right balance of fluids in your cells, tissues, and blood, which is crucial for normal bodily function.
- Nerve Function: They enable the transmission of electrical signals across nerve cells, facilitating communication between the brain and other parts of the body.
- Muscle Function: They are necessary for muscle contractions, including the heartbeat. In other words, they help your muscles perform better, whether you’re running, doing a deadlift in the gym, or standing up from a chair.
- pH Balance: They help balance the body's pH levels (the measure of acidity and alkalinity), which is vital for normal cellular function.

What are the symptoms of an electrolyte imbalance?
Your body needs a precise balance of all the electrolytes to ensure your body functions normally. An electrolyte imbalance means that the level of one or more electrolytes in your body becomes too high or too low. Symptoms of electrolyte imbalance include:
- muscle cramps, spasms, or weakness
- fatigue and lethargy
- persistent headaches
- brain fog
- confusion or difficulty with cognition
- anxiety
- irregular or racing heartbeat
- difficulty breathing
- low or high blood pressure
- numbness or tingling
Call your GP if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms to organise a blood test. In severe cases, electrolyte imbalances can become life threatening if left untreated.

What causes an electrolyte imbalance?
Electrolytes are mostly lost through sweat, urine, and waste so electrolyte levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day. And even though you routinely replace electrolytes through your diet, it’s very easy to deplete your body’s inventory of these essential minerals and create an electrolyte imbalance. There can be several reasons for this including:
- Excessive sweating due to intense physical exercise or exposure to high temperatures (e.g., sauna)
- Heavy alcohol consumption or binge drinking
- Severe vomiting and/ or diarrhoea
- Certain medications such as laxatives and diuretics

Are electrolyte supplements only needed by athletes?
It’s a common misconception that only athletes or those engaging in extreme physical activities need to replenish electrolytes. The reality is that electrolytes are essential minerals that everybody needs a balanced intake of. And electrolyte levels can be depleted due to several reasons – not just sweat loss – which we cover in the previous FAQ.

How does exercise affect electrolyte levels?
When you sweat, you lose electrolytes along with water. Prolonged and/or strenuous exercise, especially in hot or humid conditions will likely result in higher fluid and electrolyte loss through sweat. Electrolyte loss varies from person to person. For example, some people are “salty sweaters” and exhibit higher losses of sodium during exercise than others. If you sweat heavily and you see a white chalk on your clothing, then you're likely losing a lot of sodium. When electrolyte levels drop too low, performance can suffer. Signs of this include muscular fatigue and cramping. In extreme cases, consuming a large volume of water without sufficient electrolytes can lead to dangerously low levels of sodium in the blood, a potentially life-threatening condition known as hyponatremia. This condition has been observed in athletes participating in endurance sports, particularly over long or extreme distances, such as Marathons, Ultra-Marathons and long-distance triathlons. So, if your training sessions cause you to work up a sweat, it’s important to replace electrolytes as well as fluid loss.

How does drinking alcohol affect electrolyte levels?
Drinking alcohol can affect electrolyte levels in several ways, for example:
- Dehydration: Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it makes you pee more than usual. It does this by suppressing the antidiuretic hormone (ADH) that usually helps your body hold onto water and electrolytes instead of losing them through urine. This can lead to dehydration, which may cause an imbalance in electrolytes.
- Nutrient Absorption: Chronic alcohol consumption can impair the absorption of nutrients, including electrolytes, in the intestines. This can lead to deficiencies over time.
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Alcohol can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, potentially leading to diarrhoea or vomiting, both of which can further deplete electrolytes.
- Impact on Kidney Function: Excessive alcohol can strain the kidneys, affecting their ability to balance electrolytes effectively.

How does flight travel affect electrolyte levels?
Flight travel can impact electrolyte levels in several ways, for example:
- Dehydration: The air inside an airplane is typically low in humidity, which can lead to dehydration. When you’re dehydrated your body may lose electrolytes.
- Reduced Mobility: Sitting for long periods can limit circulation and lead to fluid retention or loss, affecting electrolyte balance.
- Altitude Effects: At higher altitudes, your body may require more water to maintain balance, and the lower oxygen levels can increase the need for certain electrolytes to support metabolism.
- Increased Stress Hormones: Travel can induce stress, which might affect hormone levels that regulate electrolytes, like aldosterone.

How does illness affect electrolyte levels?
Illness can significantly affect electrolyte levels in various ways, for example:
- Fluid Loss: Conditions like vomiting, diarrhoea and fever can lead to significant fluid loss, which can deplete key electrolytes.
- Kidney Function: Some illnesses can impair kidney function, affecting the kidney’s ability to filter and regulate electrolytes properly.
- Dietary Intake: During illness, appetite may decrease, leading to insufficient electrolytes from food.

When might I need to take electrolytes?
While every situation and body is different, there are a few common instances where electrolyte replenishment may be necessary, for example:
- During or After a Workout: Prolonged and/or strenuous exercise, particularly in hot or humid conditions will likely result in higher fluid and electrolyte loss through sweat.
- During or After a Sauna Session: Exposure to high temperatures can lead to significant fluid and electrolyte loss through sweat.
- During Illness: If you’re sick with a fever, vomiting, or diarrhoea, you’re likely losing fluids and electrolytes rapidly.
- After Drinking Alcohol: Alcohol acts as a diuretic, which means it makes you urinate more than usual leading to a subsequent loss of electrolytes.
- While Traveling: Long flights can lead to dehydration, making electrolyte balance crucial.
- In Everyday Life: 66% of Britons are dehydrated, and many of us don’t even know it. Staying hydrated and maintaining electrolyte balance can help with mental clarity, energy levels, and overall health.

Why is electrolyte water better than regular water?
The trace minerals found in regular water may not be enough to support a long-term electrolyte balance - especially if you exercise regularly and/or are dehydrated. If, for example, you lose a lot of electrolytes in your sweat, drinking plain water isn’t going to be enough to rehydrate you—the water won’t absorb well enough, since you need those electrolytes to help keep the fluid in your body’s cells. Without them, the fluid will end up passing through your body too quickly via your urine. That’s why you need a balanced ratio of water and electrolytes to maintain proper hydration. In fact, research shows 66% of Britons are dehydrated, many of whom don’t even know it. That’s where SURGE comes in. It’s a sugar-free drink mix you add to water that is specifically formulated to enhance hydration and support vital bodily functions by providing optimal concentrations of all 6 essential electrolytes - including sodium, potassium and magnesium.

What are the benefits of drinking electrolyte water?
Research shows that electrolytes help with improved hydration, better athletic performance, enhanced recovery of muscles and tissues, and healthy cellular, brain and nerve function.
- Aid Hydration & Performance: When you engage in physical activity, your body loses water and electrolytes through sweat. Studies show even minimal sweat loss of 1-2% of your body weight can have a detrimental impact on performance and result in reduced strength, speed, energy, and focus. And, drinking regular water isn’t going to be enough to rehydrate you—the water won’t absorb well enough, since you need electrolytes to help keep the fluid in your body’s cells. Without them, the fluid will end up passing through your body too quickly via your urine. Electrolyte water replenishes vital minerals lost through sweat —such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium—helping to maintain optimal hydration levels, prevent muscle cramps, and support sustained energy and focus. By restoring the body’s electrolyte balance, it aids in faster recovery and better overall performance.
- Alleviate Muscle Cramps: Research shows that drinking electrolyte water can help prevent and alleviate muscle cramps – especially during strenuous physical activity. This is because electrolytes facilitate muscle contraction and relaxation and promote normal muscle function.
- Promote Tissue Recovery: Electrolytes—especially sodium—allow nutrients to move to healing tissues through a cellular process called osmosis, promoting faster recovery. Calcium also plays a vital role in blood clotting and bone health, essential for healing post-exercise, injury, or surgery. This is why surgical patients often receive IV fluids to efficiently restore electrolytes.
- Boost Cellular Function: Electrolytes are crucial for every cellular activity in the body. They facilitate the transport of nutrients into cells and the removal of waste products, helping cells function efficiently and reducing the workload on the kidneys and liver.
- Support Brain Function: Research shows that even mild dehydration – a body water loss of 1-2% - can lead to reduced cognitive abilities, diminished concentration and alertness, and slower reaction times. This is because the nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that transmit signals and messages between the brain and the rest of the body, and electrolytes play an integral role in that communication process.
- Facilitate Recovery from illness: Severe and/or on-going vomiting and diarrhoea can cause your body to lose fluids and important electrolytes, and lead to dehydration quickly. Drinking water enhanced with electrolytes can help prevent dehydration and help your body to recover and regain normal function more quickly.
- Support Digestion: Proper hydration is crucial for digestion. Electrolyte water helps maintain the body’s fluid balance, ensuring there is enough water for digestive processes, such as breaking down food and moving it through the intestines. What’s more, staying hydrated can prevent constipation and help keep bowel movements regular. So, whilst electrolyte solutions don’t directly aid digestion in the way enzymes or probiotics do, drinking electrolyte water can support better overall digestive health.

What do the clinical studies show?
Numerous benefits. Check out the scientific studies behind the ingredients in SURGE here.

What’s SURGE and how does it work?
SURGE is our Electrolyte formula. It’s a sugar-free blend of 10 active ingredients, including all 6 essential electrolytes plus vitamins, and creatine to keep you hydrated, enhance your physical performance and endurance, and help you recover faster. So you can go harder and stronger for longer.

What’s the best time to take SURGE?
It depends on your specific needs and goals. SURGE can be taken before or during exercise for maximum performance and endurance, or after to support rehydration and recovery. You can also take it anytime during the day to provide rapid hydration as needed.

How shall I take SURGE?
Tear open one stick pack, pour into 500ml of cold water, mix thoroughly and drink. Enjoy as and when you need.

Can I take multiple stick packs of SURGE a day?
Individual requirements are likely to vary. We recommend 1-2 stick packs per day depending on your diet, activity level and how much you sweat. Factors like exercise duration and intensity, as well as your environment (e.g. heat / humidity), can influence how much you sweat and therefore your requirements. Generally, the more you sweat, the more electrolytes and fluids you need.

Why does SURGE not contain a higher dose of Sodium?
Consuming excess amounts of salt can have an adverse effect on your health so it’s important to only replenish what your body needs to maintain balance. Sodium chloride (salt) is the primary electrolyte in sweat, with potassium, magnesium, and calcium present in smaller amounts. The average person loses about 500mg to 1,500mg of sodium per litre of sweat during intense exercise. Since individual sweat rates vary widely—from 0.5 to 2 litres per hour—this means that sodium loss can range from 250mg to 3,000mg per hour, depending on factors like fitness level, exercise intensity and duration, environmental conditions (temperature and humidity), genetics and body mass. So, if your exercise sessions are between 30-90 minutes and you’re eating a balanced and nutritious diet, 1-2 stick packs of SURGE should be sufficient to replenish the electrolytes you lose. One advantage of SURGE electrolyte powder is, you can add as much or as little, as you need to your water. Furthermore, SURGE is not over indexed on Sodium which means you can take it to maintain daily hydration even when you’re not hitting the gym. Note, the NHS recommends no more than 6g of salt (2.4g of sodium) a day and consuming too much salt can be harmful. For example, some of the higher-dose sodium products on the market could aggravate blood pressure.

Why does SURGE contain Creatine Monohydrate?
Creatine helps muscle hydration by drawing water into muscle cells. By improving muscle hydration, creatine helps maintain electrolyte balance within the muscle cells. Proper hydration ensures that muscles contract and relax more efficiently, which can reduce the likelihood of muscle cramps caused by dehydration or electrolyte imbalances. Furthermore, according to the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), creatine monohydrate is the most effective ergogenic nutritional supplement currently available to athletes in terms of increasing high-intensity exercise capacity and lean body mass during training. Which means SURGE can help you go harder and stronger for longer.

What are the benefits of Creatine Monohydrate?
Creatine is a natural source of energy that helps muscles contract. About half of your body’s supply of creatine comes from your diet (red meat, sea food, animal milk). Your body produces the other half naturally. Many people take creatine supplements because they exercise intensely and want to boost muscle performance, or because they don’t get enough creatine in their diet. Creatine Monohydrate helps:
- enhance energy levels by increasing ATP production (the primary energy molecule in cells), which boosts athletic performance
- build muscle and strength by improving muscle performance and recovery
- improve muscle hydration by drawing water into muscle cells which supports muscle function and reduces cramping
- support brain function in people >60y according to recent studies

How does Creatine Monohydrate help muscle hydration?
Creatine has an osmotic effect, meaning it draws water into muscle cells. This process, known as cell volumization, hydrates the muscles and enhances their function. Proper hydration reduces muscle cramping, fatigue, and the likelihood of injury while also promoting protein synthesis for muscle growth.

Is SURGE sugar free?
SURGE contains zero sugar. And you won’t find any artificial sweeteners in SURGE. It’s sweetened naturally with Stevia leaf, a plant extract. Which means no aftertaste, no sugar crash, just a naturally better taste and maximum hydration without unnecessary additives.

How many calories are there in SURGE?
Each 4.5g serving (stick pack) contains just 2 calories – significantly fewer than a single wedge of watermelon. Impressive, right?
