What’s Himmense SHIFT and how does it work?

What’s collagen?
Good question. Collagen is kind of a big deal. Specifically, it's the most abundant structural protein in the human body and constitutes 70% of our dry-mass skin content. It's found in all our connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and bones, with its purpose being to provide these body parts with their strength, structure and elasticity. As we get older, our bodies become less efficient at naturally producing collagen which is why so many people supplement their diet with collagen. Detailed information about collagen can be found here.
What is hydrolysed collagen?
Using a process called hydrolysation, the collagen is broken down into smaller pieces known as “peptides” which makes it more bioavailable – i.e. easier to absorb. This is why collagen peptides are also known as hydrolysed collagen. Research shows that due to its very low molecular weight, hydrolysed collagen is absorbed at a higher level into the bloodstream and circulated throughout the body more easily than other forms of collagen.
What is marine collagen?
Unsurprisingly, marine collagen is derived from fish. When the flesh of a fish is removed to be used as food, everything that is left is cleaned, and collagen is extracted via the process of hydrolysation. Marine collagen is a form of type 1 collagen, and is the highest, most bioavailable source of collagen. Type I collagen is the most abundant form of collagen in the body and is found in tendons, ligaments, skin, bones, teeth, hair and nails.
Can I take marine collagen if I’m allergic to fish?
Marine collagen is sourced from the skin of freshwater fish, so it’s not recommended for those with allergies to fish - sorry about that.
Is marine collagen sustainable?
Yes. Our marine collagen peptides are made from the skins and scales of fish that would otherwise be discarded in the fillet process. Furthermore, our collagen is not irradiated and complies with EU food regulations and marine collagen is more sustainably produced and has less impact on the environment than for example bovine collagen which is sourced from animals (cows & pigs).
Is marine collagen better than bovine collagen?
Studies that have looked at the absorption of collagen peptides found marine collagen tends to be absorbed 1.5 times better than bovine collagen due to its low molecular weight. Studies also show hydrolysed collagen seems to be well absorbed in general and can boost circulating levels of important amino acids. Furthermore, because Marine Collagen is sourced from fish, there is a lower risk of transmissible diseases and viruses that can affect animal products such as BSE (commonly known as Mad Cow Disease) and Foot-and-Mouth Disease.
How and when shall I take HIMMENSE SHIFT collagen?
Like a shot of tequila. But good for you. Simply snap the pouch in half using one hand and squeeze the contents in to your mouth. And as for when, it’s a bit more complicated. Take one, once a day, any time you like. (Probably not just after brushing your teeth though, the Mixed Berry flavour and toothpaste is an acquired taste, to put it lightly). You can also add SHIFT to smoothies, protein drinks or yogurt.
Is it good to take collagen everyday?
Research shows that taking 2.5 to 15 grams daily of hydrolyzed collagen is safe and effective, and some experts suggest taking them consistently for maximum benefits.
How much collagen should I take daily?
Studies show that the optimal dosage of collagen can vary depending on individual factors such as age, weight, and health status, as well as the specific type of collagen supplement. However, most nutritionists recommend a dosage of around 6 grams per day in liquid form. Liquid supplements have been shown to be more effective than pills or powders as a delivery mechanism.
How long does it take to see results when taking collagen every day?
Our subscribers have seen brilliant results in as little as 2 weeks. But every body is different, so if it’s taking a little longer - stick with it, it’s 100% worth it. Clinical studies show that Himmense SHIFT's key ingredient, Type 1 hydrolysed marine collagen peptides, can have a beneficial effect on the appearance of skin, boost muscle mass and reduce joint pain when taken daily for 12 weeks which is aligned with what our subscribers tell us. So, you may not notice the benefits visibly for weeks. Which is why we have packed our premium marine collagen with vitamins and minerals so either way you’re getting tons of benefits straight away.
What are the benefits of taking collagen supplements?
The secret to collagen is in the science. For example, clinical research has found associations between collagen supplementation and favourable results in terms of skin, muscle mass, joints and heart health.
Why should I take collagen?
One of the major building blocks of the human body, collagen is pretty much the Swiss army knife of proteins. As we age our natural collagen production begins to slow down which can result in sagging skin, the appearance of fine lines and thinning hair - no thanks! Supplementing your diet with ingestible collagen can increase your collagen intake. Check out the science here.
Is collagen good for males?
Yes, clinical research has found associations between collagen supplementation and favourable results for both men and women in terms of muscle mass, skin health, joints and heart health. Our subscribers have reported better overall physical and mental health as well as improvements in skin, joints, muscles, recovery and more.
What does collagen do to your skin and face?
According to a comprehensive meta-analysis published in the International Journal of Dermatology, hydrolyzed collagen supplementation shows favourable results in terms of skin hydration, elasticity and wrinkles. These findings were consistent across all 19 studies included.
Does collagen help muscles?
Collagen is a high source of protein. Protein contributes to the maintenance and growth of muscle mass. Several studies have found associations between collagen supplementation and favourable results in terms of muscle strength, mass, and power. For example: A 2019 study in recreationally active men aged between 21-27 years showed that a combination of collagen supplements and strength training increased muscle mass and strength more than a placebo.
Does collagen help joints?
Clinical trials have shown supplementation with collagen may reduce joint pain. For example: A 2019 review of five studies in more than 500 people with osteoarthritis found that taking collagen supplements daily for an average of 24 weeks led to significant improvements in joint stiffness and joint pain.
Is collagen good for hair?
When it comes to our hair, the specific protein responsible for maintaining its structure and quality is keratin. And like collagen, our bodies make less keratin as we get older and our hair often becomes thinner, weaker and sometimes more coarse. Collagen contains amino acids in a very easy to absorb form and some of these amino acids are vital for the production of keratin.
At what age shall I start taking collagen?
We begin to lose about 1% of our collagen per year in our mid-20s. As we age, the body’s natural collagen production begins to slow down and the signs of ageing—like joint pain, weaker cartilage, thinning hair and sagging skin—become more apparent. By the time we get to 40, we will have lost around a third of our natural collagen. Excess sun exposure, smoking and poor diet can also inhibit collagen production. Fortunately, clinical studies show that supplementing your diet with ingestible collagen can increase your collagen intake. So, given the saying "prevention is better than cure", experts recommend people start taking Collagen daily from their mid 20’s or early 30s to reap the maximum benefits. But it's never too late to start.
Can I take collagen with other medications & supplements?
Consult a doctor or healthcare professional if you have any questions or are taking any prescribed medications before you try any supplements.
Who should not take collagen?
Collagen supplements are generally safe for most people to take. However, certain individuals may want to avoid specific types of collagen supplements or speak with a healthcare provider before taking them. These include people who have allergies to the source of the collagen (such as fish allergies), pregnant or breastfeeding women, and children. Additionally, people with certain medical conditions, such as liver or kidney disease, or who are taking prescribed medications, should consult with a healthcare provider before taking collagen supplements.
